September 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I started a film review blog a few weeks ago; so here is the link for anyone out there who is interested (if anyone is even out there!)

Cinephile Extraordinaire

September 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I think I’m going to start a movie review blog, separate to this one. Since I am a film student and I go to the movies a lot! It just makes sense and will also help with my writing.

Now I just have to decide what to call it.

You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer

Your ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you’re from.
And while you may have some problems being “normal,” you’ll have no problems writing sci-fi.
Whether it’s epic films, important novels, or vivid comics…
Your own little universe could leave an important mark on the world!

The not so silent killer

June 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was just watching clips on YouTube of various things that I find amusing and laughing, obviously, when I realized something very important about myself. For me, sometimes laughter is dangerous… because I often forget to breathe. My laughter frequently turns into hyperventilation, which leads into feelings of lightheadedness, and very suddenly the joke is just not funny anymore.

Hat, shoes- dork.

June 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Fairly recently I was prompted to dwell on my rather lackluster favorite apparel items of time gone by.

I was initially reminded of a favorite hat that I was very much attached to and which I wore almost every day. I recently found it while rummaging in my closet and it now looks like a dirty old rag. I am still reluctant to discard it (must be an emotional thing), despite the fact I really don’t know what I was thinking wearing it so much in the first place. Did I not look in the mirror? When I first got it, it was alright but it seemed to shrink over the years (or my head just got bigger) to the point where my skull bulged out the top and my unfortunate nose protruded quite unattractively out from underneath in profile. Not to mention the fact that it faded and has turned an unsightly yellowy color…eww is right. Thankfully, I stopped wearing it a few years ago.

Then there were the $250 shoes that I acquired for my birthday back when I was a spoiled brat. They were these enormous, moon-boot like, awesome (so in at the time), white and orange Osiris skate shoes. I couldn’t skateboard to save my life but the shoes were so cool that I just had to have them. In retrospect, they lasted me quite a while. I actually still have them. I myself don’t wear them however, my mother occasionally wears them for gardening.

Generally speaking, my shoes tend to last a long time…probably due to a combination of the fact that I really love them and I am slightly insane. You see, when I was younger I had a completely unhealthy compulsion to keep my shoes in the best condition for as long as humanly possible. It’s tapered off now but back in the day I used to get home and polish my shoes for marks. Kinda freakish.

Now though, all I wear are chucks and I don’t care what happens to them. My Superdry Jacket on the other hand…watch out!

An open letter to Leo Tolstoy.

May 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Tolstoy, you’re a great writer and all, but I seriously wish you had endeavored to write less words in your books. It’s been 5 months and I’m still not finished with Anna Karenina. I feel like it’s growing more pages! At this point, I can’t imagine trying to read War & Peace.

Sincerely,

A frustrated yet enamored reader.

“Television is not the truth! Television is a God-damned amusement park!”

May 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I despise Network Television. I have for a long while now. I have come to realise that it is either worthless and damaging propaganda for the purpose of mass programming/brainwashing or utter rubbish for the purpose of money. Most importantly, it is a distraction from the important things going on around us- kind of like a magic show when the magician focuses your attention to the empty hand while the real “trick” is happening in the other. The powers that be in the world today (a relatively small faction of very powerful individuals who control almost everything around us) count on crap like Television (which they effectively run) to draw our attention away from the crazy shit they put into place, behind the scenes, on a daily basis. Cable shows are the only TV with an iota of worth and/or substance. Which makes sense, considering the fact that less people are able to see them and they cannot be utilised as successfully for crappy distraction and/or propaganda.

It really is a shame that, Battlestar Galactica- the best thing to ever happen on tv- is done. I hope its prequel Caprica (which has a very interesting pilot episode) actually makes it on the idiot box.

And why is it that the best, most creative and unique shows are always cancelled long before their time? Specifically, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, & Pushing Daisies, which were all brilliant.

At the moment, the only shows left I have to entertain me with sufficient capacity are Breaking Bad, Big Love, Dexter, In Treatment & Reno 911 .The only show I watch on the regular networks is the mostly funny comedy, The Office- and I do not watch it on the TV itself. Oh, and The Simpsons

Network TV really is a refuge of the lowest common denominator in society as the most popular shows exemplify. These of course include, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, CSI, Criminal Minds, which are some of the worst shows to ever appear on television, and feature dialogue and story-lines that are so utterly preposterous and insulting to anyone with a modicum of intelligence yet continue to thrive in this sad sad world. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the “news”.

P.S. I love the film Network ;)

The flu formerly known as Swine.

May 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It appears that “Swine Flu” or H1N1 or whatever the hell they are calling it now, is not very popular anymore. It’s weird because it was built up so epicly in those first few days. The news presenters were so grim faced about it, it was the headline story everywhere, with worried quotes from officials about how fast it was spreading- it was almost like we were all going to die!  Now it takes a backseat to menial stories about pseudo-celebrities and other such crap. Ahh, business as usual.
